Magic beans

When I was a child, one of my aunties had a remedy for an upset stomach … it was two teaspoonfuls of Demerara sugar in a glass of warm water – vigorously stirred and then sipped slowly. So I was not surprised when I read that someone advocated the use of a fistful (20 or more) of jellybeans taken at bedtime followed by a glass of water to cure constipation. It wasn’t the fact that I didn’t think that it would work – more the thought that if a person was to use this as a cure or preventative measure over a period of time they could end up both with high blood sugar levels and extremely bad teeth! I suppose, on the other hand perhaps in some places jellybeans are more accessible than other over-the-counter medicines to cure the problem!

All I know is that it someone told me that eating jellybeans would make you sprout a tail and an orange, feather-covered beak I would still eat them anyway.

mmm-mmm good. Have you ever tried the buttered popcorn flavored one? how do they do that, anyway?

You learn something new every day!

I knew that it's common for those with diabetes to have a jar of jelly beans handy - but I did not know this one.

Side note, the current GritFX competition is all about jelly beans - guess the number competition - if you like any of our t-shirt designs, you might want to check it out ;)

Seems they're promoting sugar only, not a remedy.

I think that Jelly Belly jellybeans can cure just about everything.

Any excuse to eat sweets, if you ask me :O)

Are you aware that when your 'Comment' link is clicked a web page opens up for a love counter? If it's intentional, that's fine, but if it isn't I thought you might like to know.

Thanks for all the comments on the jellybeans. I have never been a jellybean fan myself and my grandma always used to hanker after licorice comfits.
The particular reference to the jellybean in truth surprised me as it was allegedly authenticated by a medical practitioner. I was just wondering if the medical practitioner had ever thought about the consequences - we can never assume that someone might try the 'cure' once in a life time or once every five years for instance. There will always be some that think that it is a normal thing to chomp on jellybeans at bedtime to open their bowels the following day.

Thanks for your added note, Babs - I have tried opening comments on both Firefox3, Chrome and Internet Explorer and can't replicate the problem. I will carry on looking into it. I hope that no-one else has encountered the problem.

Cheers one and all. :)

That was indeed interesting polly. Btw, I got your email to Ellaine regarding the malware on my blog. I truly appreciate your letting me know. Jane of Jane Jane Publication also sent me a message thru entrecard about it. I got it fixed (permanently, i hope) I installed anti-malware for added precaution. Again, my million thanks to you! Happy Friday! ^_^

I don't really like jelly beans either. I'd rather try something else.

P.S. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I know it was awhile ago, but just now received a new computer.

Oh Polly Jelly Beans are my son and hubby's favorite! They can sit all day munching on these colorful yummies! :-)

I for one wouldn't mind popping pills if they were as yummy. :D
